Tips & Hints

Writing in Arabic

🌟

You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.

🏫 For Teachers

  • The planning stage is crucial — pupils who plan write better paragraphs. Insist on planning before writing.
  • Model the writing process yourself: plan on the board, write, make mistakes, self-edit — normalise revision.
  • A class book is a powerful product — share it with parents and the school community.
  • For the assessment, allow pupils to choose their topic — engagement produces better writing.

🏠 For Parents

  • Your child is now writing paragraphs in Arabic — this is a remarkable achievement! Celebrate it.
  • Ask to read their Arabic writing and show genuine interest, even if you can't read Arabic yourself.
  • Encourage your child to explain their writing to you — this reinforces what they have written.
  • Keep their best Arabic writing — it is a wonderful keepsake of their learning journey.

💡 Learning Hints & Memory Tricks

  • A good Arabic paragraph has a topic sentence (الجملة الرئيسية), supporting sentences (جمل داعمة), and a conclusion (الخاتمة).
  • يكتب (yaktub - he writes), كاتب (kaatib - writer), كتاب (kitaab - book), مكتوب (maktoob - written) — all from the same root ك-ت-ب!
  • When self-editing, check 3 things: 1) Do verbs match their subjects? 2) Do adjectives agree in gender? 3) Is the meaning clear?
