Planning Your Writing

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Paragraph puzzle: give pupils sentences from a paragraph in the wrong order — can they rearrange them?

Main Activities

  1. 1Teach paragraph structure: topic sentence → supporting sentences → concluding sentence
  2. 2Model planning: brainstorm ideas → organise into a plan → write the paragraph
  3. 3Introduce planning tools: mind maps, bullet point lists, numbered outlines — all in Arabic
  4. 4Plan a paragraph about "My School" using a chosen planning method

Writing About My Family

45–55 minutes

Lesson Objectives

  • Write a 5-8 sentence paragraph in Arabic
  • Use varied vocabulary and sentence structures

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Sentence starters: display 5 different ways to start a sentence — pupils choose one and create a sentence.

Main Activities

  1. 1Review paragraph structure and planning from Lesson 1
  2. 2Write a paragraph about "My Family" — include names, descriptions, activities, and opinions
  3. 3Use a checklist: Did I include adjectives? Verbs? Connectives? Opinion phrases?
  4. 4Peer review: swap paragraphs and give 2 positive comments + 1 suggestion

Writing About My World

45–55 minutes

  • Write about different topics independently
  • Self-edit and improve writing

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Topic picker: draw a topic from a hat — you have 3 minutes to plan a paragraph about it.

Main Activities

  1. 1Choose a topic: My City, My School, My Hobby, My Dream, or My Friend
  2. 2Plan, write, and self-edit a paragraph of at least 5 sentences
  3. 3Self-editing checklist: spelling, verb forms, adjective agreement, punctuation
  4. 4Revise and improve: make at least 2 improvements to your first draft

Writing Paragraphs Review

Best sentence showcase: each pupil shares their best sentence from the week.

Main Activities
