Tips & Hints

Places Around Me

🌟

You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.

🏫 For Teachers

  • Use Google Maps or a projected map to show real Arabic-named streets and places — this adds authenticity.
  • Create a large floor map that pupils can physically walk on while giving directions in Arabic.
  • Link with geography by exploring places in Arabic-speaking cities: Cairo, Amman, Dubai.
  • Direction words are great for Total Physical Response (TPR) — get pupils moving and following Arabic instructions.

🏠 For Parents

  • When out and about, point to places and say the Arabic name: "Look, a مسجد!" or "There is the مدرسة!"
  • Give simple Arabic directions to your child at home: "اذهب يمين" (go right) as a fun game.
  • Use Google Maps together and find places in Arabic-speaking countries.
  • The word مكتبة (library) also means bookshop — explore how Arabic words often cover broader meanings.

💡 Learning Hints & Memory Tricks

  • مستشفى (mustashfa - hospital) comes from the root meaning "to heal" — the place of healing.
  • مكتبة (maktaba - library) comes from كتب (kataba - to write) — the place of writing/books.
  • مطعم (mat'am - restaurant) comes from طعم (ta'am - food/taste) — the place of food!
