Alphabet Check-Up

Lesson Objectives

  • Recall all 28 Arabic letters by name
  • Identify letters they still find tricky

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Sing the Arabic alphabet song together — how much do we remember from Year 1?

Main Activities

  1. 1Alphabet self-assessment: children mark letters they know confidently and letters they need to practise
  2. 2Speed letter naming: flash cards one at a time — say the name as fast as possible
  3. 3Group similar-looking letters together (e.g. ب ت ث, ج ح خ) and discuss the differences
  4. 4Complete the alphabet recognition worksheet — circle and name each letter

Letter Sounds

30–40 minutes

  • Say the sound each letter makes
  • Match letters to initial sounds in words

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Letter sound warm-up: teacher makes a letter sound — children hold up the correct letter card.

Main Activities

  1. 1Practise the sound (not just the name) of each letter — model clearly and children repeat
  2. 2Sound sorting: sort picture cards by their initial letter sound
  3. 3Play "What letter does this word start with?" using familiar Arabic vocabulary
  4. 4Complete the writing practice worksheet: write the letter and a word starting with it

Writing Letters from Memory

35–40 minutes

  • Write at least 10 Arabic letters from memory
  • Form letters with correct proportions

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Air-writing challenge: teacher says a letter — children write it in the air. Now on paper!

Main Activities

  1. 1Dictation round: teacher says 10 letter names — children write each one from memory
  2. 2Peer marking: swap papers and check each other's letters against the alphabet chart
  3. 3Letter formation practice: focus on the 5 trickiest letters from the dictation
  4. 4Decorate a "My Best Letters" page to display in the classroom
