Tips & Hints
Rainbow Colours
🌟
You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.
🏫 For Teachers
- Colours are one of the most motivating vocabulary topics — use the enthusiasm to build confidence.
- Label classroom objects with colour name cards in Arabic to create an immersive environment.
- Some colour words are long (e.g. "burtuqaali") — break them into syllables and clap along.
- Use colour-themed days: "Today is Blue Day — everyone wear or bring something azraq!"
🏠 For Parents
- Colours are everywhere, making them the easiest vocabulary to practise at home!
- During meals, ask "What colour is this?" and help your child say the Arabic word.
- You can learn the colour names alongside your child — there are only about 10 to remember.
- Try labelling crayons or paint pots with Arabic colour names for visual reminders.
💡 Learning Hints & Memory Tricks
- ✦"Ahmar" (red) — the "Ah!" at the start sounds surprised, like seeing a bright red fire engine!
- ✦"Azraq" (blue) — think of the Azure blue sky!
- ✦"Burtuqaali" (orange) — it sounds like "Portugal" because oranges came to the Arab world from there!
