The root word w-s-t appears in the Quran primarily in the context of 'wasatan' (وسطا) meaning 'the best' or 'moderate.' Most notably, in Surah Al-Baqarah 2:143, Allah describes the Muslim community as an 'Ummatan Wasatan'—a nation of the middle way or balanced nation. This Quranic usage emphasizes the Islamic value of moderation and balance. The name Wasit carries this noble Quranic heritage, embodying the principle of being just, moderate, and balanced in all matters.
“How can you disbelieve while to you are recited the verses of Allah, and among you is His Messenger? And whoever holds firmly to Allah has indeed been guided to a straight path.”
“For every nation We have appointed rites which they perform. So let them not dispute with you over the matter, but invite them to your Lord. Indeed, you are upon straight guidance.”
“And thus We have made you a nation of the middle way so that you may be witnesses over humanity, and the Messenger will be a witness over you.”
