من (س و ر) المنزلة الرفيعة والفضل والشرف، وواحدة سور القرآن.
Surah derives from the Arabic root س و ر (S-W-R), which relates to walls, fortifications, and elevation. The name carries dual significance: primarily, it refers to a chapter of the Quran (of which there are 114), and secondarily, it embodies the meanings of high rank, excellence, virtue, and honor. This name reflects both the sacred structure of Islamic scripture and the elevated character qualities associated with the root word.
Arabic, rooted in classical Arabic with deep Islamic significance. The term has been used in Islamic tradition for over 1,400 years as the standard designation for chapters of the Quran.
In Islamic and Arab culture, this name carries profound religious weight, as each Surah of the Quran is a distinct unit with its own themes and spiritual lessons. Naming a girl Surah reflects parental hopes for her to embody Islamic knowledge, virtue, and elevated moral character. The name is particularly favored among Muslim families who wish to honor the Quran and instill spiritual values in their children.
