🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Grammar champion: rapid-fire questions covering pronouns, tenses, negation, adjectives, comparatives — who gets the most right?

Main Activities

  1. 1Comprehensive grammar quiz: covering all structures from Years 7-9 (pronouns, verb tenses, negation, adjectives, comparatives, connectives)
  2. 2Vocabulary knowledge audit: self-assess vocabulary across all topic areas with traffic light system
  3. 3Grammar repair workshop: based on quiz results, focus on the 3 most common class-wide errors
  4. 4Vocab cards worksheet: create revision cards for remaining weak areas

Reading and Writing Assessment

55–60 minutes

  • Read and comprehend a multi-paragraph Arabic text at Year 9 level
  • Write a structured multi-paragraph response

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Confidence check: on a scale of 1-10, how confident do you feel about reading Arabic? Writing Arabic? Let's aim to increase both today.

Main Activities

  1. 1Reading assessment: read a 3-paragraph text about life in an Arab country and answer 12 comprehension questions
  2. 2Include: literal, inferential, and evaluative questions
  3. 3Writing assessment: choose a topic and write a 4-paragraph text (introduction, 2 body paragraphs, conclusion)
  4. 4Tracing worksheet: practise any words that caused difficulty during the assessments

Speaking and Listening Skills Assessment

55–60 minutes

Lesson Objectives

  • Demonstrate conversational fluency on a range of topics
  • Switch between formal and informal register appropriately

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Conversation relay: topic chain — each pair discusses a topic for 1 minute, then switches to a new topic with a new partner.

Main Activities

  1. 1Speaking assessment: 4-minute conversation covering 2 different topics — teacher assesses
  2. 2Assessment criteria: range of vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, fluency, pronunciation, use of opinions and reasons
  3. 3Formal task: deliver a 2-minute formal presentation on a topic of choice
  4. 4Writing practice: write reflective notes on your speaking performance — what went well? What to improve?

Memory lane: look back at your first piece of Year 7 Arabic work compared to now — what has changed?

Main Activities

  2. 2Skills self-assessment: rate yourself on all 4 skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and all grammar areas
  3. 3Goal setting for Year 10: write 3 SMART goals for continued Arabic development
  4. 4Picture vocab activity: create a visual celebration poster of your Arabic learning journey
