Jobs and Professions Vocabulary

Lesson Objectives

  • Name 12 jobs in Arabic with masculine and feminine forms
  • Say what different people do for work

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Career guessing game: teacher mimes a job — students guess in Arabic. If they don't know the word, they learn it!

Main Activities

  1. 1Teach job vocabulary with masculine/feminine pairs: طبيب/طبيبة (doctor), مهندس/مهندسة (engineer), معلم/معلمة (teacher), محامي/محامية (lawyer), ممرض/ممرضة (nurse), شرطي/شرطية (police officer), طباخ/طباخة (cook), صحفي/صحفية (journalist), رجل أعمال/سيدة أعمال (businessman/businesswoman)
  2. 2Pattern recognition: notice how adding ة creates the feminine form for many jobs
  3. 3Family job descriptions: "أبي طبيب. يعمل في المستشفى." (My father is a doctor. He works in the hospital.)
  4. 4Vocab cards worksheet: write each job pair with illustrations

Dream job poll: quick show of hands for different careers — which is most popular? Discuss why.

Main Activities

  1. 1Teach the key phrase: أريد أن أكون + job (I want to be a...) — "أريد أن أكون طبيبة لأنني أحب مساعدة الناس"
  2. 2Expand with reason phrases: لأنني أحب (because I like), لأن الراتب جيد (because the salary is good), لأنها مهنة مهمة (because it is an important profession)
