Essential Islamic Phrases

Lesson Objectives

  • Learn 8 common Islamic phrases and their meanings
  • Understand when each phrase is used

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Phrase recognition: how many of these phrases have students heard before? Display them and discuss.

Main Activities

  1. 1Teach 8 key phrases: بسم الله (in the name of God), الحمد لله (praise God), إن شاء الله (God willing), ما شاء الله (God has willed), سبحان الله (glory to God), جزاك الله خيراً (may God reward you), السلام عليكم (peace be upon you), بارك الله فيك (may God bless you)
  2. 2Context cards: for each phrase, explain when it is used — before eating, upon seeing something beautiful, when planning, etc.
  3. 3Matching activity: match phrases to their correct contexts
  4. 4Vocab cards worksheet: write each phrase with meaning, context, and Arabic script

Response drill: teacher says a trigger ("Someone sneezes", "You see a beautiful sunset") — students call out the appropriate phrase.

Main Activities
