Arabic Question Words

  • Pronounce question words accurately

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Mystery bag: teacher describes an object inside a bag — students must ask questions in English to guess it, then we learn to ask in Arabic.

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce question words with flashcards: ما، من، أين، متى، كيف، لماذا
  2. 2Matching activity: pair each Arabic question word with its English equivalent
  3. 3Choral drilling: practise pronunciation of each question word in a question context

Yes/No Questions with هل

Lesson Objectives

  • Form yes/no questions using هل
  • Answer yes/no questions appropriately with نعم and لا

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

True or false about the teacher: "هل أنا من لندن؟" — students answer نعم or لا.

Main Activities

  1. 1Explain the role of هل as a question particle — it turns any statement into a question
  2. 2Demonstrate: "أنت طالب" becomes "هل أنت طالب؟" — practise with 10 examples
  3. 3Pair work: one student makes a statement, partner converts it into a هل question
  4. 4Writing practice: convert 10 statements into questions and write appropriate answers

Question and Answer Conversations

  • Hold a short Q&A conversation in Arabic
  • Use question words fluently in spoken Arabic

Hot seat: one student sits at the front, class asks questions in Arabic, student answers.

Main Activities

  1. 1Model a short conversation between two people meeting for the first time
