You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.
🏫 For Teachers
- This topic is excellent for discussing gender equality — show that all jobs can be done by anyone, using masculine and feminine forms.
- Invite parents or community members to talk briefly about their jobs — introduce them in Arabic.
- The masculine/feminine job title pattern is very regular in Arabic — exploit this pattern for grammar learning.
- Link with PSHE and careers education for a cross-curricular approach.
🏠 For Parents
- Talk about your own job and family members' jobs using Arabic words where you can.
- Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up and practise saying it in Arabic.
- When you see people working (shop assistants, bus drivers), say the Arabic job title together.
- Many Arabic job words sound similar to English: مهندس (muhandis - engineer), صحفي (sahafi - journalist).

- ✦طبيب (tabeeb - doctor) becomes طبيبة (tabeeba) for a female doctor — adding ة is the most common way to make feminine job titles.
- ✦مهندس (muhandis - engineer) — this word entered many European languages from Arabic, reflecting the Arab world's engineering heritage.
- ✦طيّار (tayyaar - pilot) comes from the root طار (taara - to fly) — the person who flies!
