Tips & Hints
Around My City
🌟
You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.
🏫 For Teachers
- The treasure hunt activity is consistently one of the most popular — invest time in setting it up well.
- Use the school building itself as a learning resource — give Arabic directions around the actual school.
- Prepositions are tricky in any language — use physical demonstrations: stand behind, beside, between chairs, etc.
- Link with maths by introducing compass directions and coordinates using Arabic.
🏠 For Parents
- When walking or driving together, give simple directions in Arabic: "انعطف يميناً!" (Turn right!)
- Play a directions game at home: "Where is the remote? بجانب التلفاز!" (Next to the TV!)
- When visiting new places, point out and name them in Arabic.
- Use Google Maps in Arabic mode together — it is available as a language option.
💡 Learning Hints & Memory Tricks
- ✦يمين (yameen - right) and يسار (yasar - left) — a tip: يمين starts with ي which looks like it points right!
- ✦أمام (amaam - in front of) and خلف (khalf - behind) are opposites — learn them as a pair.
- ✦بجانب (bijaanib - next to) literally means "by the side of" — ب (by) + جانب (side).
