Tips & Hints

Connecting Arabic Letters

🌟

You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.

🏫 For Teachers

  • This is one of the most important topics for Arabic literacy — letters connecting is key to reading.
  • Not all letters connect on both sides (e.g. و, ر, ز, د, ذ) — teach these non-connectors explicitly.
  • Use colour coding: highlight the connection points between letters in different colours.
  • Go slowly and use lots of repetition — this concept takes time to internalise.

🏠 For Parents

  • This is a breakthrough topic — your child is learning how Arabic letters join to form real words!
  • Arabic letters change shape when connected, like English cursive writing but more so.
  • Some letters do not connect to the next letter — your child will learn these special cases.
  • Be patient with this topic — it is one of the harder concepts but essential for reading Arabic.

💡 Learning Hints & Memory Tricks

  • Think of connecting letters like holding hands — they change shape slightly to join their neighbour!
  • Some letters are shy and only hold hands on one side (like و and ر) — they never connect to the left.
  • When you see a word, look for dots first — they help you identify which letter you are looking at!
