Bismillah and Alhamdulillah

Lesson Objectives

  • Understand when to say "Bismillah" and "Alhamdulillah"
  • Write both phrases in Arabic

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Recall from Year 1: does anyone remember what "Bismillah" means? When do we say it?

Main Activities

  1. 1Review "Bismillah" (بسم الله — In the name of God) and "Alhamdulillah" (الحمد لله — Praise be to God)
  2. 2Discuss contexts: Bismillah before eating, starting work; Alhamdulillah after eating, when grateful
  3. 3Trace and write both phrases in Arabic script — focus on letter connections
  4. 4Create a "When Do I Say It?" chart with illustrations for each phrase

In Sha Allah and Masha Allah

  • Say and understand "In sha Allah" and "Masha Allah"
  • Know when to use each phrase

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Bismillah + Alhamdulillah recap: act out eating a meal using both phrases in the right places.

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce "In sha Allah" (إن شاء الله — God willing) — used when talking about the future
  2. 2Introduce "Masha Allah" (ما شاء الله — God has willed it) — used to admire something
  3. 3Scenario cards: read situations and decide which phrase to use
  4. 4Write both phrases in Arabic — practise the letter formations

Phrase match game: match each Islamic phrase to its meaning — how many do you know?

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce "Jazak Allah khayr" (جزاك الله خيراً — May God reward you with goodness) — a special thank you
  2. 2Compare: "Shukran" = thank you, "Jazak Allah khayr" = a deeper, more heartfelt thank you
  3. 3Role-play situations: when would you say each Islamic phrase? Act them out
  4. 4Complete the picture-vocab worksheet matching phrases to situations

Main Activities
