Greetings & Introductions

My Name Is...

30–40 minutes

Lesson Objectives

  • Say "Ismi..." (my name is...)
  • Ask "Ma ismuka/ismuki?" (what is your name?)

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Year 1 greeting recap: say "Marhaba!" and "As-salamu alaykum" — we need these for introductions!

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce "Ismi..." (اسمي) — each child practises saying "Ismi [their name]"
  2. 2Introduce the question "Ma ismuka?" (to a boy) and "Ma ismuki?" (to a girl)
  3. 3Practice pairs: greet each other, ask the name, and answer — a full mini-conversation!
  4. 4Write "Ismi..." followed by their name in Arabic letters (or transliteration)

How Old Are You?

30–40 minutes

Lesson Objectives

  • Say "Umri... sanawaat" (I am... years old)
  • Tell someone their age in Arabic

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Introduction chain: go around saying "Ismi..." — try to remember classmates' Arabic introductions!

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce "Umri sitta sanawaat" (I am 6 years old) or "Umri sab'a sanawaat" (I am 7)
  2. 2Practise: each child says their age in Arabic — "Umri..." + their age number
  3. 3Interview your partner: ask their name and age in Arabic — write down the answers
  4. 4Complete the writing practice worksheet for introduction phrases

Putting It All Together

35–40 minutes

  • Give a 3-sentence introduction in Arabic
  • Listen to and understand others' introductions

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Quick intro: turn to your partner and say "Ismi... Umri..." — 2 sentences in Arabic!

Main Activities

  1. 1Model a full introduction: "As-salamu alaykum. Ismi [name]. Umri [age] sanawaat."
  2. 2Children practise their 3-sentence introduction with a partner
  3. 3Add "Ana min [city/country]" (I am from...) as a bonus sentence
  4. 4Record or present introductions to the class — celebrate each one!

Introduction Presentations

30–40 minutes

Lesson Objectives

  • Present a confident self-introduction in Arabic
  • Respond to questions about themselves

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Teacher introduces herself fully in Arabic — children listen and identify each piece of information.

Main Activities

  1. 1Each child presents their introduction to the class (name, age, and one more fact)
  2. 2Audience asks one question in Arabic: "Ma ismuka?" or "Kam umruka?" (How old are you?)
  3. 3Create an "All About Me" card in Arabic to display in the classroom
  4. 4Complete the vocab cards worksheet with all introduction vocabulary
