Eleven and Twelve

Lesson Objectives

  • Say "ahad ashar" (11) and "ithna ashar" (12)
  • Count from 1 to 12 in sequence

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Count from 1 to 10 in Arabic — warm up those counting muscles!

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce 11 (أحد عشر) and 12 (اثنا عشر) — notice these combine number + "ashar" (ten)
  2. 2Counting chain: go around the room counting from 1 to 12 in Arabic
  3. 3Match Eastern Arabic numerals ١١ and ١٢ to the words — notice numbers read left to right!
  4. 4Complete the number tracing worksheet for 11 and 12

Thirteen, Fourteen, Fifteen!

Quick-fire: teacher shows a numeral from 1–12 — children shout the Arabic number.

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce 13 (ثلاثة عشر), 14 (أربعة عشر), 15 (خمسة عشر)
  2. 2Pattern spotting: "Can you see the pattern? Thalaatha + ashar = thalaathata ashar!"
  3. 3Counting exercises: count objects up to 15 using Arabic numbers
  4. 4Number writing: practise writing Eastern Arabic numerals ١٣, ١٤, ١٥
