Tips & Hints

Essay Writing Mastery

🌟

You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.

🏫 For Teachers

  • Share the exam mark scheme with learners early — understanding what examiners reward demystifies the process.
  • Build an essay phrase bank as a class resource that grows throughout the year.
  • Practise timed writing regularly so learners build stamina and time management skills before the real exam.
  • Differentiate by providing sentence starters for weaker writers while challenging stronger writers to use more sophisticated structures.

🏠 For Parents

  • Essay writing is a key exam skill. Encourage regular practice at home — even one essay per week builds confidence.
  • Ask your teen to explain the difference between argumentative and discursive essays — teaching you helps them learn.
  • Offer to time their practice essays at home to simulate exam conditions.
  • Read their essays (even in translation) and ask questions about their arguments — this develops critical thinking.

💡 Learning Hints & Memory Tricks

  • In exams, spend 5 minutes planning and 5 minutes checking. The time "lost" is repaid in essay quality.
  • Learn the top 10 discourse markers and use them in every essay: أولا, ثانيا, بالإضافة إلى ذلك, من ناحية أخرى, في الختام.
  • A strong thesis statement in your introduction tells the examiner exactly what to expect — it sets you up for success.
