Cat, Dog, Lion!

Lesson Objectives

  • Say "qitta" (cat), "kalb" (dog), "asad" (lion)
  • Match animal pictures to Arabic names

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Animal sounds game: make animal sounds — "What animal is this?" Now learn the Arabic names!

Main Activities

  1. 1Introduce cat (قطة), dog (كلب), lion (أسد) with big picture flashcards — say each 3 times
  2. 2Animal actions: roar like an asad, purr like a qitta, bark like a kalb — say the name with each action
  3. 3Animal matching: match animal pictures to Arabic name cards
  4. 4Colour the animals worksheet and trace their Arabic names underneath

Elephant, Rabbit, Bird

  • Name 6 animals in Arabic

Quick recap: show flashcards from Lesson 1 — children call out the Arabic animal names!

Main Activities

  2. 2Animal guessing game: one child acts out an animal — others guess in Arabic!
  3. 3Create animal finger puppets and label them with Arabic names

  • Recognise all 6 animal names by ear
  • Say which animal is your favourite in Arabic

🌅 Warm-Up (5 min)

Animal dance: play music, when it stops teacher says an Arabic animal name — do that movement!

Main Activities

  1. 1Sing "Old MacDonald" with Arabic animals: "And on his farm he had a qitta!"
  2. 2Animal sorting: sort animals into pets, wild, farm while saying their Arabic names
  3. 3Say "My favourite animal is..." in Arabic — everyone shares
  4. 4Draw and label: draw a farm scene with animals labelled in Arabic

Animal alphabet: can you think of an animal for each Arabic letter you know?

Main Activities

  1. 1Safari role-play: walk around the "safari" classroom, spot animals and say Arabic names
  2. 2Animal bingo: call out Arabic animal names, children cover the matching picture
  3. 3Create an "Arabic Animals" mini-book with a picture and name for each animal
  4. 4Class vote: "What is our favourite Arabic animal?" — count votes in Arabic!
