Tips & Hints

Counting to Ten

🌟

You don't need to be an Arabic expert to teach your child. Consistency, encouragement, and making it fun are far more important than perfection. These tips will help you feel confident and prepared.

🏫 For Teachers

  • Numbers 6–10 have longer words — break them into syllables and practise each part before the full word.
  • A counting wall display that grows as children learn new numbers provides a great visual reference.
  • Use number songs frequently — musical patterns help children remember the sequence.
  • Counting backwards is much harder but excellent for cementing number knowledge — try it as a fun challenge.

🏠 For Parents

  • Count to 10 in Arabic during car journeys — it becomes a fun travel game.
  • Ask your child to teach YOU the numbers — children love being the expert!
  • Do not rush — if your child is solid on 1–5, that is wonderful. Numbers 6–10 will come with practice.
  • Count in Arabic during everyday activities: bites of food, steps up stairs, items in a basket.

💡 Learning Hints & Memory Tricks

  • "Sitta" (6) sounds like "sitting" — imagine 6 people sitting in a row!
  • "Ashara" (10) is the big one — all 10 fingers up, both hands spread wide!
  • Eastern Arabic numerals tip: ٧ looks a bit like the letter V — think "seVen"!
